This is an old Giant Yukon (?). It used to belong to Mel, aka Dr Indy, aka Darkgrrl, aka lots of other things. It was stripped, blasted, and powdercoated in gloss black. It's a serious, no BS, smallish, rigid, CrMo, beast.
I bought it off one of our common acquaintances, Nick. He'd bought it (in pretty ordinary condition) off Mel, then ridden it into the ground. I thought it would be a good upgrade for Bec, from her 15-speed "Guess by Apollo" step-through mountain-like bike. Various spares from my bits boxes (and wheel collection) rehabilitated Blackbike into something rideable.
Blackbike never really fit Bec particularly well. Too long. My extensive collection of short steep A-head stems wasn't a help, due to Black Bike having an olde schoole threaded headset.
I eventually coaxed Bec onto my old Cleanskin hardtail. The road crankset that I was running on the Cleanskin (in super-commuter mode) moved to Blackbike to enable the Cleanskin to be a real bike (aka MTB) once more.
Black Bike is now a general-purpose road-oriented hack. I ride it to work pretty often. It's specced with a motley assortment of my throw-aways. Lots of the STX-RC grouppo that came on the Cleanskin when it was new; a few bits of the Alivio grouppo that was on Blackbike when we got it (probably since new); a few other bits and pieces. Currently 2x7 (52-40 v's 12-28; gripshift front and b0rken rabid-fire rear) with canti brakes and slicks.
