I got me a new bike.
There's a bit of a spiel about it here.
I'll put some real pictures of it up when I get around to it. In the mean time - it looks pretty similar to KHS's pic above. But a bit different. And not as clean. Ugh.
As of last page update, this is my dually:
Frame: KHS XC504, 2004 model.
Fork: Marzocchi Bomber EXR 2003.
Headset: Truvativ.
Stem: Kore Elite 110x35.
Bar: Truvativ XR riser.
Grips: OE. Nasty.
Bar Ends: None. Yet.
Shifters: 9-speed Deore rabid fires.
Brake levers: Avid 7.0.
Brakes: Avid Ball Bearing cable disks: 8" front, 6" rear.
RD: 9-speed XT rapid-rise.
FD: 9-speed Deore.
Crankset: Truvativ FireX 22-32-44.
Pedals: Ritchey-style SPD copies.
BB: Truvativ ISIS.
Cluster: 9-speed Deore, 11-34.
Chain: KMC something-or-other.
Hubs: Generic alloy disc hubs. Not sure if they're cartridge bearing or cup/cone style.
Rims: Vuelta Vision front, WTB Laserbeam rear.
Spokes: NFI black 14g 3x front and rear.
Tyres: Tioga Factory DH 2.1 front, WTB Weirwolf 2.1 rear.
Seatpost: Whatever. Too much setback for my morphology.
Saddle: WTB.
In chronological order, these are the things I've changed on the bike since new:
Component | Change from | Change to | Reason |
Front tyre | WTB Weirwolf 2.1 | Tioga Factory DH 2.1 Front | Swapped with hardtail, which needed a better rear tyre. DH on front is good, DH on rear is bad. |
Front rim | WTB Laserbeam (OE) | Vuelta Vision | Had a big OTB on my second ride and folded it. Machine built wheels. Should have known better than to ride without building properly. Another stylee champagne-coloured rim from the LBS's cheap old-stock. |
Shock | Fox Vanilla R Propedal | RockShox Sid XC 2003 | Propedal just doesn't work on this frame. Too much compression damping, and too much spring stiffness even under my ample frame. Ebay via USA, off a Giant NRS. |
Stem | Truvativ XR 105x5 | Kore Elite 105x35 | Pr0n! Irresistable when it came up on Ebay and I was about to go to the USA. Steep stems are my thing. It's dead sexy. |
