Functional Differences

This manual is for the Ricoh KR-10 Super. As mentioned, it is almost identical to my XR-10 (which may have been sold as the KR-10X in some markets). This page documents the differences between the manual, and my XR-10. Owners of other nearly-identical Ricohs are invited to send me a similar list for inclusion on this page.

XR-10

Lens

The XR-10 (KR-10X) was sold standard with a 35-70mm zoom lens. The operation of this lens is typical of a short zoom lens - the three rings are, moving away from the camera body, aperture, zoom and focus.

Beyond the f-22 aperture position is another setting, marked "P". The ring will not move in to (or out of) this position unless a small button on the ring is pressed. I am lead to believe that this position allows the lens to be used on a shutter-priority or program camera. As the XR-10 does not have a shutter-priority mode, the "P" position is of no use.

I would assume that the shutter-priority position is ONLY compatible with Ricoh shutter-priority cameras, which use a different pin configuration to Pentax KA compatible shutter-priority cameras. Lenses for each system will work on the other, but only in aperture-priority or manual modes.

Focusing aids

The XR-10 does not have the microprism annulus as referred to in the manual. The only focussing aid is the split-image spot in the centre of the viewfinder window.
